Summary

4。5 rounded up。 Overall loved the world building, the pacing was almost perfect except for about 3/4 of the way through。 Some side characters could have been fleshed out a bit more, but overall the story and storytelling was outstanding。 Will start the second book immediately

The genius behind the works is incredible。

This book is huge! I'm not afraid to admit I was a little terrified of this beast that arrived at the library for me。 The prose is beautiful, and I love his use of language throughout the book。 It's also a frustrating book。 It feels like it takes forever for Kvothe to get to the point。 By the end, we still don't know much of anything and that bugs me。That being said, it was still an engaging read if really long。 This book is huge! Mr。 Rothfuss' first novel brought to mind classic fantasies such as J。R。R。 Tolkien's 'Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings' and Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' series。 I believe that anyone who enjoyed those works will thoroughly enjoy this one。 'The Name of the Wind' features the same attention to detail, references to the main character's past, and sophisticated descriptions of magic and the supernatural, along with the consequences of utilizing either or both。Although the main character is extremely in Mr。 Rothfuss' first novel brought to mind classic fantasies such as J。R。R。 Tolkien's 'Hobbit' and 'Lord of the Rings' and Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' series。 I believe that anyone who enjoyed those works will thoroughly enjoy this one。 'The Name of the Wind' features the same attention to detail, references to the main character's past, and sophisticated descriptions of magic and the supernatural, along with the consequences of utilizing either or both。Although the main character is extremely intelligent and possesses an extensive knowledge of and ability to occasionally demonstrate superhuman powers, his physical restrictions and occasional lapses in moral judgement and common sense allows the reader to personally identify with and understand him and the reasons for his occasional failure to do the right thing。 。。。more

It was ok。 This was my first modern high fantasy book i think and i heard only good about it。 The story is good, the writing style is flawless but I had a problem with the main character。 He was too perfect in everything for me to enjoy reading about him。 It was like a child's fantasy about himself being the best in everything。 After this i picked up the Wheel of Time and stucked with that。 It was ok。 This was my first modern high fantasy book i think and i heard only good about it。 The story is good, the writing style is flawless but I had a problem with the main character。 He was too perfect in everything for me to enjoy reading about him。 It was like a child's fantasy about himself being the best in everything。 After this i picked up the Wheel of Time and stucked with that。 。。。more

This book was an easy-to-read page-turner。 Can’t complain。

Maybe I'm thinking a lot。 “If I seem to wander, if I seem to stray, remember that true stories seldom take the straightest way”Because of the rhythm of the story and because Kvothe says that he needs three days to narrate his life, it seems to me it will be one day per book。 I still have many doubts about the main conflict, will it all lead to the Chandrian? It was okay - probably more appropriate for a bit of a younger audience。

Pulled me in and didn’t let goFrom the very beginning I was drawn in and couldn’t stop reading。 Initially I tried the audiobook but got very confused。 It’s worth reading the book over listening。

Very well told (for me with fairly narrow experience in fantasy), but a bit edgy in places。

While this is an EXCELLENT book, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two key reasons:- I am mad at the author because he has not yet published the long-awaited 3rd book in this trilogy, and I want him to feel the sting of my rath。- This is a fantasy novel clearly written by a man。 J。 R。 R。 Tolkien at least gave as Eowyn as a strong female figure while Arwen was slinking away, wordless and plotless, in the shadows of Rivendell。 The author seems overly obsessed with describing the female character' While this is an EXCELLENT book, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two key reasons:- I am mad at the author because he has not yet published the long-awaited 3rd book in this trilogy, and I want him to feel the sting of my rath。- This is a fantasy novel clearly written by a man。 J。 R。 R。 Tolkien at least gave as Eowyn as a strong female figure while Arwen was slinking away, wordless and plotless, in the shadows of Rivendell。 The author seems overly obsessed with describing the female character's hair over giving them any actual plotline。Still an excellent read。 。。。more

After being a naysayer for a while, I finally attempted to read this book。 And of all the books that are long, they usually are great- this is no exception。 I would describe it as fun, fantastically believable, and wise。 I was moved at times by this book that I had to put it down。 Excited to read the second!

If you like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings you might enjoy entering this world。 Its not as beautifully written as these mentioned but its well thought out and it keeps you turning the pages。

The book has a great opening series of events that hooks you。 Then the main character begins to tell his life story starting at a very young age。 By the end of this book, you don’t get near the opening events, because his story is very detailed and drawn out。 I stuck with it, because a friend swore it was fantastic。 And it was…eventually。 The last 20% of the book is what contributed to this getting 4 instead of 3 stars。 I’ll try book two of this series after a while, but keep in mind that at thi The book has a great opening series of events that hooks you。 Then the main character begins to tell his life story starting at a very young age。 By the end of this book, you don’t get near the opening events, because his story is very detailed and drawn out。 I stuck with it, because a friend swore it was fantastic。 And it was…eventually。 The last 20% of the book is what contributed to this getting 4 instead of 3 stars。 I’ll try book two of this series after a while, but keep in mind that at this time (May 2021), the third and final book is not available and it’s been 10 years since the second was released。 。。。more

If you’re reading this review and haven’t read this book yet, do yourself a favor and go out to your nearest bookstore, pick up a copy, and come back and read the rest of this review。 It’s that good。I don’t know the last time I read a 700+ page novel in under two weeks, if ever。 Rothfuss does a great job of keeping you engaged, entertained, invested, and turning pages late into the night when you should be sleeping。 Excited to read The Wise Man’s Fear。 Not excited to wait for #3 to come out…

So many mixed feelings about this book!Either I am just a plain idiot, or this book simply didn’t do it for me。 Don’t get me wrong I believe the authors intent is marvelous, and I can’t bash him points for his story he was trying to tell。 But this character driven story felt like nothing was happening a lot of the time, and then some things happened but didn’t feel like it was progressing to any sort of goal? It’s hard to explain。 And yet the setting, magic and some events that happens are down right intriguing。 I have to give high praise his prose and character work, amazingly well put together。 Very noticeable writing style that flows sweetly like honey。 Each sentence felt beautifully well crafted。 But the pacing was odd for me, idk why。 It’s mostly subjective I guess, but I can assure you this isn’t a rant, I did enjoy it over all。 But I’m just not into the hype train like so many other out there have been。I like it, but slow slow character driven stories with plot points slid into the back seat and nearly forgotten, makes me jarred a bit。 I guess I just expected more magical things being brought to the forefront。 But not bad。I’m still gonna read book two, but with the on going joke within the fanbase of the author never finishing the trilogy I’m not exactly in any hurry。 Ha Ha 。。。more

Ok let’s be honest, this book was not at all what I was expecting。 This book was slow and boring。 Nothing happened for more than 700 pages and the main character of Kvothe is extremely annoying and deserves to be slapped a couple of times through the story。 The writing is nonetheless very good and the end of the book raises a small interest in me to proceed to the second book。

This book was AMAZING。 It was recommended to me my my LA teacher, and it is one of his favorite books。 I’m not sure what to classify this book as, but maybe something like dark fantasy。 It was riveting, and kept me on edge the whole time。
